Course Description:
Positional Release Therapy (also sometimes known as Strain/Counterstrain) is a gentle, non-invasive osteopathically-based technique whose guiding principle is to work with the body to activate self-correcting reflexes. This manual therapy honors the instinctive wisdom of the body, facilitating self-healing to occur as the body remembers its natural ability to move away from pain or tension and towards ease. This gentle bodywork method is designed to break the cycle of pain by learning how to correct structural imbalance and somatic dysfunction. The client’s body is placed in a position of ease for 90 seconds which allows the body to reset the spasmodic muscle back to normal. The indicator point is an additional tool used to detect referred pain zones or areas of sensory dysfunction in this technique. The tender points in positional release therapy are used primarily as diagnostic indicators of the location of dysfunction. Specific self-care exercises will be given to participants for their own self-care so they can continue to remind their bodies of its natural ability to release and self-correct.
