6 CEUs for Chiropractors and Massage Therapists *

Course Description:

Over the past number of years there has been a great interest and push towards the use of Kinesiology tape as a modality. While this type of tape can be used for a number of conditions, it is not very good when used to stabilize a joint. Leukotape, given its composition and characteristics, is a better choice when needing to stabilize a joint. Physical therapists, athletic trainers and other professionals have been using Leukotape for years. The purpose of this course is to educate practitioners on the differences between Kinesiology tape and Leukotape, teach them how to recognize when a joint needs to be stabilized and how to perform different stabilization taping techniques for the shoulder/upper back, knee and ankle.

Course Objectives:

Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • Explain the difference between Kinesiology Tape and Coverall and Leukotape
  • Know when to use each one
  • Distinguish between Osteokinematics and Arthrokinematics
  • Define Therapeutic taping
  • Explain Contraindications and Precautions
  • Recognize when joint stabilization taping is necessary.
  • Perform and experience stability taping for shoulder/upper back, knee and ankle

Students should bring or wear clothing that allows for access to shoulder/upper back, knee and ankle. In addition, they should bring scissors strong enough to cut through tape (ideally, medical grade).
