Oncology Massage in a Spa Setting

Cancer therapeutics have become more advanced and those receiving a cancer diagnosis are having more favorable outcomes. It seems likely that in your massage therapy career you will have clients in all stages of a cancer diagnosis come across your table. Massage therapy is generally considered safe for individuals with cancer, those currently in treatment and those who are in recovery. This class is designed for those therapists working in a spa setting who are looking to advance their knowledge of Oncology Massage and safe practices.
Upon completion of this course, students will be able to:
Define Cancer and explain statistics
Identify Oncology Massage
List Indications/Benefits/Contraindications of Oncology Massage
Identify modifications for Oncology Massage
Identify accurate Intake forms and treatment plans
Identify Oncology massage techniques
Students should bring a set of sheets to cover a massage table (or twin-size fitted sheet and flat sheet) and a towel for draping. Massage tables will be provided.

About Joanna Mosto Paganotti:
Joanna has been a massage therapist since 2007, which, continues down a path she began in 2001 when she became a Reiki practitioner and started her study of medicinal plants. She maintains a private practice, Balance Massage and Energy Healing, LLC and in 2009 began teaching massage and bodywork as well as energy work and meditation. From 2009 to 2017, she was a Massage and Bodywork Instructor at Institute for Therapeutic Massage and worked in 2013 as a Bodywork Instructor and Clinic Supervisor at Fortis Institute.
She has expanded her knowledge of mind-body work, studying CranioSacral Therapy with the Upledger Institute, Past Life Regression with Brian Weiss, Access Bars with Access Consciousness, Pre and Post Natal massage with Cheryl Chapman and most recently, the Spurgeon Method™ of Breast Massage Levels 1 and 2 with Sally Spurgeon. Joanna believes that bodywork and energy work should not be a luxury but rather a step on your path towards well-being.
About Dorothy Coyne:
Dorothy is an LMT, Certified Manual Lymph Drainage practitioner, and is Medical Massage Therapy and Oncology Massage certified. She owns a private massage practice, Pure Life Massage Therapy, and in addition to much other massage therapy experience, she has practiced for many years with Atlantic Health Systems, working with in-home hospice patients and performing private oncology and/or scar tissue release massages in the Overlook Cancer Center, located in the Infusion Center for oncology patients; hand and shoulder massages in the Radiology Lobby, foot, hand and shoulder massages in the Infusion Center, and oncology massages in the Inpatient Unit.
