Pre and Post Natal Massage
8 CEUs Massage Therapists only (NCBTMB Approved for all states but NY) – Live In-Person Class
Course Description:
Massage has been used for centuries to ease the tension and stress that pregnancy and childbirth puts on the mother’s body. The Touch Research Institute in Miami has conducted research to measure the benefits of massage during pregnancy and found that massage can improve labor outcomes. A relaxing massage will allow the body to reduce levels of cortisol (a major stress hormone) and increase levels of serotonin and dopamine. Massage will also increase circulation – venous, lymph and arterial – which will help with the edema associated with pregnancy. Additionally, postpartum massage will increase levels of oxytocin which is particularly useful for the nursing mother and to decrease the size of the uterus as well as address new postural dysfunctions associated with caring for an infant.
