This continuing education course is prepared to serve as an introduction to the topic of underground construction.  Subjects to be included are a general overview, equipment tunneling types.  A discussion of geologic issues to be encountered as well as safety considerations.

This seminar is prepared to introduce engineers to the world of underground construction.  There are approximately 20 tunnels currently on going in the USA.  Of these there are 3 just in the NYC area which includes the Gateway Tunnel .

This course will provide an understanding of tunnels for those who might consider working in the field.

Professional Engineer and Professional Planner

Alan has over 47 years experience in civil engineering and construction.  Fields of work include project management on design and construction of highway, bridge, tunnel, historical, site, geotechnical and construction management projects.    He is  Adjunct Professor of Civil Engineering at New Jersey Institute of Technology.

Shaft and tunnel Resident  Engineer  for the Manhattan portion of the NYCDEP Water Tunnel No.3 project in Manhattan.  Project was worth approximately  $700,000,000 and involves the construction of 10 – 500 ft. deep shafts and 9 miles of 10 ft. diameter tunnels.

Latest assignment, served as a Quality Control Engineer on a bridge project.  Assembled a Contractor’s Quality Plan as well as numerous forms for documentation of the work.  Reviewed daily reports. In addition to the years of experience in hands on civil engineering, adjunct teaching has been performed by Alan for 22 years at the New Jersey Institute of Technology

7.  You may not receive your Certificate of Completion if we cannot verify your attendance.
