Cupping to Reduce Lymphedema
5-Hour Live Course for Massage Therapists/Bodyworkers and Chiropractors – 5 CEUs for MTs, 5 CEUs for Chiropractors in States that Accept PACE, 6 CEUs for NJ Chiropractors *
This course will review the lymphatic system then address what lymphedema is, what typically causes it, where it can be found in the body, signs and symptoms. Various treatment options will be discussed but the focus will be on how to use various types of cups to reduce lymphedema. The course will address the physiologic responses of cupping and benefits to body systems, as well as any contraindications. In addition to lecture, there will be demonstration of technique and then student practice sessions.
Ideally students will have experience with basic cupping and some knowledge of lymphatic drainage.
Students should bring: a bottom sheet for covering a massage table; wear or bring shorts and a sports bra to allow for work on legs and torso.
Learning Objectives
Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:
- Describe how the lymphatic system works
- Explain how lymphedema presents in the human body
- List options for treatment to reduce lymphedema
- List the benefits of using cupping to reduce lymphedema
- Explain contraindications for treating lymphedema with cups
- Demonstrate how cupping can be used to reduce lymphedema
* This course is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork (NCBTMB) for massage therapists in all states but NY, Approved Provider #307800-00. It is approved for NJ chiropractors through the New Jersey Board of Chiropractic Examiners because The Institute for Continuing Education is an Approved Sponsor/Provider through 8/31/25. Chiropractors in states that accept PACE may also receive continuing education credit because the school is recognized by the PACE Program of the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards (FCLB). Note: NJ chiropractic CE credits are based on 50-minute hours.

Eric Munn is a Licensed Massage Therapist and Physical Therapist Assistant. He taught all aspects of massage therapy in a full time massage education program for over twelve years, ten of those years as program director. He has taught numerous continuing education courses in his twenty plus years of practice as a Massage Therapist. He has spent over seven years as a Physical Therapist Assistant honing his massage and corrective exercise skills.
