This is a 6-hour IN-PERSON hands-on course. It is approved for 6 CEUs for NJ chiropractors, NJ physical therapists and PTAs, NJ massage therapists and chiropractors in states that accept PACE.*

Myofascial release is a type of massage that releases tightness and pain. It can be used to locate knots or trigger points, and then to release any tension. In this course you will review how the fascia system works, what a fascial restriction is and how myofascial release can be used. You will be able to list the many benefits of myofascial release. This course also includes several hours of hands-on practice finding restrictions and performing myofascial release on different parts of the body.

Upon completion of this course, the participant should be able to:

  • Describe the fascia system
  • Explain how the fascia system works
  • Define what a fascial restriction is
  • Describe how myofascial trigger points develop
  • Define myofascial release
  • List the benefits of myofascial release
  • Perform soft tissue mobilization techniques related to myofascial release
  • Perform myofascial release on various parts of the body

Students should bring a sheet and a towel to class.

About the Instructor: Toni LaSala, PhD, LMT, NSCA-CSCS, ACSM-EP-C, RYT, ACE -GEI, Integrated Stretch Coach (NASM), Health and Wellness Coach. A Licensed Massage Therapist, Toni has taught Exercise Physiology and related topics in academia as well as massage  schools for over 30 years. She has also taught myofascial release, stretching, massage techniques, ethics and other continuing ed topics to licensed healthcare professionals for many years.  She has implemented and managed fitness and wellness programs in fitness centers, in Global Fortune 500 corporations, in hospitals and chiropractic centers, as well as for children with learning disabilities. Toni has been a researcher, student advisor, corporate consultant, scholarly presenter and published author of peer-reviewed articles. She has 21 certifications in fitness and health coaching, most recently as a certified pickleball coach with PPR and a member of USA Pickleball.

She has also studied myofascial release with the renowned Dr. John Barnes.

*The course is approved for NJ chiropractors through the NJ Board of Chiropractic Examiners. The Institute for Continuing Education is an Approved Provider/Sponsor with the NJBOCE through 8/31/25. The Institute is also recognized by the PACE Program of the Federation of Chiropractic Licensing Boards. The course is approved  for NJ Massage Therapists/Bodyworkers under Section 13:37-4.2(a) (i)(xiii) of the New Jersey Board of Massage and Bodywork Therapy regulations. It is pending approval with the NCBTMB. It is approved for NJ physical therapists and PTAs through the NJ Board of Physical Therapy Examiners through 1/31/26, Approval Code #2311-83.
