LIVE WEBINAR: POST SURGICAL PRECAUTIONS FOR HIP AND KNEE

Approved for 2 CE credits for NJ Chiropractors and Massage Therapists. *

With over 1 million total hip and total knee replacements done each year in this country, these surgeries have become common place and routine in our society. Studies show more people each year are receiving massages and adjustments for a variety of reasons. It only makes sense that massage therapists and/or chiropractors have a better understanding of how two of the most common orthopedic surgeries are performed and how we can best help our clients and patients. It is important to understand orthopedic pathologies and their post-surgical precautions. This course describes these pathologies, the surgeries, and the post-surgical precautions surgeons may place on them, so the massage therapist can work safely on his or her clients without doing harm to them or the surgeries. Students will learn how to communicate with doctors and physical therapists “in their own language.”

Course Objectives:
1. Describe different pathologies of the hip and knee
2. Explain and summarize the procedures for total and partial hip and knee replacements
3. Explain the reasons why MDs place precautions on the patients
4. Employ the different precautions that need to be adhered to by patients and therapists
5. Communicate effectively with MDs and PTs to facilitate improved patient outcomes

Learning Environment:
Participants will be exposed to a multimedia presentation including PowerPoint and videos to understand how total and partial hip and knee replacement surgeries are performed and understand why doctors place movement precautions on the patients to aid in healing. This course will help attendees learn how to help their clients while still adhering to the precautions. A period of questions and answers will address common issues therapists/chiropractors may encounter.
