Morning Lecture: Innovative Structural Analysis Methods to Avoid Failures : Time 8am to 12pm    4 PDU’s

Every now and then, there are news of structural failures of different types of structures (e.g. Building, bridges, tunnels etc.). Some of the structural failures are due to improper structural Analysis under static and dynamic loading. It is imperative for engineers to know the structural analysis of different types of structures (e.g. Building, bridges, tunnels etc.) Under static and dynamic loading. It (This presentation) offers coverage of the concepts of analysis of structures. The various topics include basic structural analysis of beam, column, truss, frames etc. And their combinations.  The analysis includes loading, shear force, bending moment, slope and deflection diagrams. Discussion will made regarding behavior of structure under static and dynamic loading. This presentation also covers innovative methods to quickly analyze a complex structure with real life examples and methods to avoid blunders in structural analysis. It also includes selection of appropriate structural analysis methods to avoid failures of structures with real life examples

Afternoon Lecture: Analysis & Design of Shallow Foundations: Time 12:30pm to 4:30pm   4 PDU’s 


This seminar/presentation will cover the salient features of the analysis and design of shallow foundations. All structures need to have suitable foundation in or to stand. The main functions of foundation in construction are to provide overall stability for the structure and serve the function of providing a level surface for the construction of substructure. Since all the loads of the structures are finally transmitted to the foundation; there design must be judiciously made. The various types of shallow foundation are isolated footing, combined footing, raft/mat foundation, cantilever footing, grillage foundation and spread footing. A shallow foundation is responsible to transfer a load of the superstructure to the soil at the base of the substructure. If the bearing capacity of the soil is good and the structural load will not cause any settlement of the underlying soil layer, then you should be selected the shallow foundation. A shallow foundation is mostly used for residential building construction purposes. The function of the shallow foundation is to provide adequate support to the building structure which they carry. Foundation should imply load bearing capacity, to safely resist the effects of the various combination of the permanent and transient load transmitted to the founding strata, without any settlement and deformation. Sample calculations will be presented of design of shallow foundation of various types of soil conditions. This presentation will also include practical aspects (thumb rule) of design of shallow foundation. Few illustrations of foundation failures will be done on account of poor design of shallow foundation. Apart from that, discussion will be made on Types of Shallow foundation and their suitability to various types of soil.



Mr. Avinash Prasad is a Licensed Professional Engineer, Land Surveyor with more than three decades of professional experience in civil engineering, surveying & management field since his graduation. He has recently earned Doctor of Philosophy degree from New York University in Civil Engineering. He has double Master of Science Degrees in Civil Engineering and Engineering Management from New Jersey institute of technology, NJ and BS Degree in Civil Engineering. He has more than 2000 hours of continuous professional education as instructor/participating professional (1990-2021) excluding formal education. He is a (NJ) state certified emergency medical technician (EMT), emergency medical responder (EMR), fire fighter (FF). He is a FELLOW of American Society of Civil Engineers and also an active member of several professional organizations such as: AREMA, PMI, AISC, NYSAPLS etc. His technical papers were accepted in multiple ASCE journals and various other organizations like ASCE, AREMA & NYSAPLS conference proceedings for presentation and or publication multiple times.
